People take up golf for a variety of different reasons –  to relax, improve their health or network with business associates, etc.. If you are new to the game, you will understand the importance of tips and practice, in order to improve your game and maximize your enjoyment. This article gives advice about a number of golf putting training aids, to help you improve your short game.

1. Putting arcs – the head of a perfectly swung putter should move in an elliptical arc. The putting arc is a rounded guide, which the golfer places on the putting green, in order to simulate the perfect putting action. Various sizes and models are available (although all rely on the same arc shape).

2. Path finders – like putting arcs, path finders are designed to improve the golfer’s putting movements. This device consists of a flat base, with several movable pins, which can be fastened in place using magnetic forces. The golfer adjusts the pins, to take into account the shape of the putting head, and practices his swing by moving the head in between the pins. A noise sounds to notify him if he hits one. As he improves, he can move the pins closer together.

3. Bulls-eye cups – this is an arc designed to be placed around a golf hole, leaving a 2 inch entrance gate. By practicing putting through this gate, the golfer learns to put on the correct line into the middle of the hole.

4. Bee line putting string – this is simply a line of string with skewers at either end. The skewers are placed at 2 points on a putting green and the golfer practices hitting the ball along this line. It has the advantage of being simple and easily transportable. It is most convenient to use on a flat surface although, with practice, you will find it is possible to practice breaking puts as well.

5. Break readers – these are electronic devices which accurately measure the breaks on a putting green. The amateur golfer can use this device over a period of time, in order to train his eyes to read breaking greens more accurately. Place it on the putting green in order to obtain the reading.

Golf putting training aids are readily available in golfing stores and online. A number of different manufacturers offer such products and both professional and amateur golfers use them in order to improve their game.
